So I bartered the use of a 1990 Case 580K 2 summers ago for some carpentry work I did from a buddy. About 16 hours of running time in, the motor locked up. I ended up buying the machine for about the price of scrap and set to finding a replacement motor (dropped a valve, took out piston, damaged head). I stumbled upon a factory reman Cummins that was NOS on a shelf for a good price. I should add the backhoe is at my camp 2 hours away from my house on 14 acres in the middle of the woods....
