Does the "shatter proof" screen still "need" a screen protector?

I know Motorola guarantees the screen from shattering for 4 years. But in reading various articles and posts online, some have said that the Droid Turbo 2's "shatter proof" screen doesn't necessarily mean scratch proof, so some still recommend using a screen protector. What are your thoughts? I've used screen protectors on my previous phones just to be safe. I'm not sure if they did anything since I'm (knock on wood) not abusive with my phones, so perhaps it was more for peace of mind. Now that the screen itself is much stronger than Gorilla Glass that most other phones have, I'm wondering if I still need to bother with one. TIA.

[TOOL] LG Laf Recovery MultiTool v1.2

The tool is pretty self explanatory. Need I say further?

Download the downloads.
Extract everything in the zip files.
Install drivers.
Open Run.bat and select an option.

Of course though if drivers are broken or USB debugging is not enabled, this will not work, so make sure drivers are all installed and working properly.

Changelog

 • Renamed to LG Laf Recovery Multitool (will work on L90 and LG Volt)
 • Removed laf.img and recovery.img from zip (download recovery yourself and place in same place as extracted run.bat)
 • Added options to backup and restore specified partition
 • Added automated bootloader unlock
 • Added option to flash recovery to laf partition (allows one to boot to recovery using download mode)

Log in defaults to phone app

Everytime I sign in using my PIN code to access my phone instead of opening to the regular home screen with the Google widget at the top and my apps icons that I have on that one home screen it automatically opens and launches the phone app. I tried this over and over and try to change settings and I cannot figure out how to make it stop. Does anyone have any advice how to " turn off it from launching into the phone every time I use my pin to sign in

S5 won't charge

I know your issue is solved, however, I decided to post here because it's such a similar issue that I didn't want to start a new thread.

For about 3 - 4 months I had no issue with my new S5, then one night after plugging it in to my wall charger, it would NOT accept the charge. No matter what I did, it would not beep nor display the charging icon. I even turned it off, checked the pins, changed wall sockets, nothing worked. As a last resort, I plugged it into my PC and right away, beep, charging.

Back to the wall charger, nothing! - Back to the usb/PC, beep, charging.

After one full charge on the PC, I can go back to the wall charger for a few charges then the same thing happens and I have to charge by PC again. I haven't narrowed down the specifics yet but it seems to be, for every half dozen or so wall charges, I need one Pc charge. Quite the inconvenience as I need the phone by my bedside.

If anyone else has this issue let me know, I'd like to know why this is needed! Such an odd thing.

Thanks

Excessive amounts of data

I got cricket 9 days ago, and I went over my 10GB high speed data cap yesterday (I use a lot of Internet...). Well, now that I'm throttled already, what if I decide to upload my entire 500GB of files on my computer to the cloud through my phone's hotspot? Or what if I decide to download 20 movies? Even though it is slowed down it still is unlimited right? Would I have a penalty for using excessive amounts of data?

Soon to be new owner

Well...just made the jump. Ordered a Turbo 2 last night. I'll be replacing my LG G3. The G3 was a good phone but what sold me on the Turbo 2 was battery life & turbo charging feature. After an over night bus ride to NYC, walking around the city for 12 hours then another overnight bus right back I was totally frustrated with the battery performance with my G3. I had to keep it on battery saver mode the whole time & while not using it for anything I had airplane mode on...and still had it run out on me. All while my gf's iPhone 6 hummed right along with minimal battery drain. Plus I'm kinda looking forward to what I've read as being a vanilla Android experience. I'm hoping I made a good decision. Anyone else come from a G3 and if so are ya glad u made the switch?

[ROM][MetroPCS & T-Mobile] Katana ROM *Updated 11-16-2015*

I tried it and ran into some problems. I know I followed the instructions good enough because they're pretty simple (Thanks GT) but the first time I flashed this I couldn't text message anyone however I could call use data. Then as I kept using the phone my apps stopped working so I went into TWRP and wiped dalvik cache, un installed and reinstalled the apps but that didn't work so I reflashed the ROM and this time I would get a very glitch lockscreen and my dialer, messaging and apps (other than stock apps) stopped working. Am I doing something wrong? I keep following the instructions maybe I should do an advanced wipe? Anyways other than these things I ran into the ROM is VERY snappy :D

Tmobile Note 5 - buy from tmo or amazon?

I'm looking to get a Note 5, and have been doing some research for the last few days. On amazon you can get a Note 5, model N920G (factory unlocked) for around $622.

Purchasing directly from T-mobile, with the blackfriday/cyber monday deal you can get it for $599. My concern with purchasing directly from T-mobile is that their model has customized software and most likely loaded with bloatware, though I haven't looked into it yet.

Anyone have any thoughts/advice on which to purchase?

Files transfer from pc to 6P?

Mine wasnt letting me transfer files via drop and drag in windows explorer. When i plugged it in, a popup on my phone asked what i was doing (or swipe down, select usb charging, and change it to something else) and i selected data transfer. It still wasnt working. None of the default android storage folders would appear (DCIM, Video, etc) and when I dragged a file over it would tell me the phone was disconnected or not available.

I got it to work by going into Developer Options, and changing "Select USB Configuration" to "MPT (Media Transfer Protocol).

Now it works fine dragging and dropping audio, video and images from my PC to the phone.

Can't send MMS when WiFi is on

Hi Folks,

I've been having trouble with MMS on my Nexus 5 since updating to MM, and have been fussing with it for a couple weeks now trying to figure out what is up. Some time after upgrading to MM I noticed that I wasn't receiving text messages with pictures. I was also unable to send. When I tried to send one it would just sit there saying "Sending" and eventually would fail, and I could tap to try and send it again (which almost never worked). I also wasn't receiving them - my brother would send me a text referring to a pic he had sent me, but I never would receive the pic.

I Googled around a bit, and found some posts that indicated Pushbullet had broken MMS on Marshmallow and they suggested removing it and rebooting the phone. I did that about 10 days ago, but it was still hit or miss with MMS - mostly miss. I tried switching between Hangouts and Messenger - still no joy. I finally tried sending one while I was out away from home and it went through. Over the last week, through a process of elimination I have determined that if I have WiFi on (even if not connected to a hotspot) the MMS will not send or receive. Turning WiFi off and sending a text with a pic goes right through. If I have one I tried to send that's stuck because WiFi was on, I can shut off WiFi and then try to resend (after it's failed), and it goes right though. I reproduced this activity about 10 times today. WiFi on, no MMS. WiFi off, MMS works fine.

I have Googled this and found others with similar experiences, but wasn't able to find a solution. Usually the threads digress into an argument about whether MMS can use WiFi or not. Let me be clear - that's not my issue or question. I don't care how the MMS actually goes, but when WiFi is on it should still go. Period. I did not have this problem prior to the Marshmallow update. Since I pretty much leave WiFi on ALL the time, this is becoming a huge PITA.

If anyone has any pointers about how to get an MMS to actually send while WiFi is on, please let me know.

Thanks,

Gary

CM12.1 Alpha Progress...

Progress!
I replaced the touchscreen lines in the defconfig file and added the new dts folder from the stock package.
I then rebuilt the kernel/boot image only (Sorry, no time!)...

...and it booted with a working touchscreen on the first try! :):)

I haven't had a chance to compile a complete package (so no adb on boot for now :( ), but I'm including a link to the new (+bumped) boot image.

All I did was:

 1. Boot into recovery
 2. Install CM12.1 from the original package
 3. Installed a new boot image from my newly compiled boot.img
And CM booted with no (visible) issues.

** Please let me know what bugs / errors exist - I have to log off for the night already but I'm sure the camera isn't working yet (I either have to update the vendor tree or change some more kernel stuff.)

Thanks @jacob019 for all your suggestions!

Can anyone make a TWRP or CWM recovery for me please?

Hey peeps I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here, c, I don't have the right stuff to do this and also I can't because when I do try to learn nothing really seems to let me get the hang of it (and I only have a chromebook that runs ARM so I'm outta luck anyway). I'd really like a custom recovery made for my Rockchip (rk3126) tablet, it runs lollipop not kitkat. When I install custom recoveries claimed that should work for this device (ig it only works with the kitkat, not lollipop?), it doesn't work(TWRP is like a picture, buttons don't respond its like I'm tapping a brick, and CWM doesn't mount anything)

Please help, I tried searching everywhere but I couldn't find anything about this tablet anywhere so I came to here where I've found much more help than any place. I'll gladly give anything u might need from my tablet to make it

NAND used as sd?

Moving apps to SD was deprecated in Android 4.0. Some devices support it still if the manufacturer added it back, but it really depends on what the manufacturer did.

It sounds like you have a manufacturer who did the most brain-dead thing possible: they retained the Android 2.3 style of keeping separate partitions for apps and app data (/data) and for media (/sdcard - a different partition of the internal storage emulating an sd card) and then put back the option of moving apps to SD without taking sufficient care to make that the real SD card rather than the emulated one.

So to be clear: this isn't a problem with android per se, it's that your TV box's software was written by lazy clowns who have not the slightest understanding of what they are doing - probably because lazy idiots cost less than developers who know or care what they are about. Sorry if that was a bit of a rant, but we get a lot of this sort of stuff (though this is a particularly extreme case) and it's because there are crappy budget manufacturers doing a really bad job of implementing the OS, and who in the process give the platform itself a bad name.

OK, rant over :). So what can you do? The answer is that you would need to root the device to be able to do anything - to overcome the shoddy implementation the manufacturer has provided you need administrator access. If you can root it (the techniques depend on the device, and I have no experience of this model) then you might be able to use an app like Link2SD to allow you to use the physical SD card for apps. You will not be able to accept system updates if you root the device (well you can, but it's at your own risk: they will certainly break root, and may introduce other problems, so I'd not recommend it). But those are your options: investigate the possibility of rooting it, or live with the limitations the manufacturer has built in. Sorry.

Daydream doesnt work

I just tired it for the first time. It goes into Daydream when on the Turbo Charger or Wireless charger. (Analog clock Night Mode is very dim.)

Settings | Display | Daydream ... enable it and choose the one you want.

When the display times out ... if On I will run the app you selected. You have to let it time out. If you turn the display off it will not trigger.

Is when to display set to Either? Perhaps id doesn't daydream if it is connected and not charging unless you specify it?

... if that doesn't work, try turning on cec on the tv and the ott box. If you run it through a receiver match that as well. anything in the HDMI path. Many companies have made up proprietary names for this feature.

(Trade names for CEC are Anynet+ (Samsung), Aquos Link (Sharp), BRAVIA Link and BRAVIA Sync (Sony), HDMI-CEC (Hitachi), E-link (AOC), Kuro Link (Pioneer), INlink (Insignia), CE-Link and Regza Link (Toshiba), RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) (Onkyo), RuncoLink (Runco International), SimpLink (LG), T-Link (ITT), HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync, VIERA Link (Panasonic), EasyLink (Philips), and NetCommand for HDMI (Mitsubishi).)

Android app to automate captive portals

I am supposed to design an Android app in Android Studio for a class that I am taking, the functionality I have in mind is for it to be, essentially, an app that automates logging in to a captive portal for Wi-Fi. I've looked around and have noticed there are a couple of apps that exist that do pretty much just this, but I'd like to take a crack at writing up one myself. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure what would go into the making of such an app. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to start or what to look into I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi There!

I'm Becky, a mom to a teenager who knows and wants everything. My interests include animals, plants, photography, and researching everything. I have a Motorola Droid Turbo phone, which I love. It sure beats the heck out of the mobile phones I grew up with - the handset with a long cord that would allow you to walk with it across the room, or perhaps a little ways into the next, and get all twisted and tangled up when you did (please see and feel welcome to laugh at pic below).

I joined the forum to find answers to some questions about using my phone, and to become more knowledgeable about it, in general. Thank you for having me.

Help ... Legit methods of getting Network Channels

Hello everyone!

As many of us do, we would like to cut the cost of these big companies charging a fortune for minimum packages of like 180 or more channels when we only want like 10!

When we purchased our Android box we were informed that streaming tv content was legal as long as we weren't downloading it. Well that's not entirely true, "streaming' is legal, it's what you are streaming that can get you in trouble! We are looking for channels like A&E, History, H2, Discovery, etc ... (in HD of course) that we can legitimately subscribe to as well as a movie channel(s) that is more robust and current than Netflix. On-demand and live. What are your favourite choices? Please include costs\fees.

Camera rumors - Brightcell, dual camera?

Nowadays a good smartphone camera goes a long, long way for me. We have a Nikon D7000 and several lenses that get used literally maybe 2 times a year. It is such a nice, nice camera - but we just don't bother toting it around. Our phone pictures are... okay. They aren't the best but it's just so convenient.

Any up in camera quality is more than welcome in our house. The S7's camera sounds like it might be pretty nice.

Major issues, tried multiple ROMS

Changed a few things and more clarification: The MVNO I'm using is Ting, I have edited the XML file in order to allow mms on Ting (changed all relevant sprint mms APN's to the Ting one) However attempting to copy the file back into /etc using Root Explorer always fails.

My issues with CM12.1 and Blisspop were mainly the play store acting up and the fact that dialer codes were not working so ##72786# was useless, if anyone knows a work around I'll jump right back into CM or Blisspop fast enough to cause whiplash, however until then I have now reverted back to the Odexed ZV5 ROM which LG just pushed out the ZV6 update to the phone.

Still working on this though, haven't reached the point where I wanted to throw it, I've come close though!

Cant turn off vibration for notifications 4.2.2

Hi,

I've tried searching but haven't found anyone else with this problem, so thought that someone has a solution here.
I have recently updated at 4.2.2, and found that my phone vibrates with every notification I receive. I'm happy for my phone to vibrate when it calls or I receive a SMS, MMS etc, but I dont want it to vibrate when I receive an email, or facebook notification etc.

Before, I just unchecked the "vibrate" setting in each app settings (gmail and facebook), but it still vibrates when a notification comes in even if it's set not to vibrate for this application.

As I receive a lot of emails, it's driving me up the wall. I've tried everything, factory reset, flashed a stock XZ ROM of 4.2.2. and it still happens!

Is there some setting that I'm overlooking, or is there an app which can fix this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance or light you can shed on this matter!

Custom kernel

I hate to say this, but I just now left broken. Was soft rebooting every time I got a call and if they didn't leave a message, I would't even know I had a call. It did this before. I removed all my tweaks and it didn't help. I clean reflashed and it was fine. Reinstalled my tweaks and it was fine, too. Lasted about 2 weeks, and started again this morning. Since it was a soft reboot, I was able to see the crash in a log, but unfortunately I didn't pull the log. Even if I did, I couldn't have reported it because of Xposed. Back on RR, which I love its stability, but I'm like blah without all my dark Layers overlays. I guess RR is tough enough to theme with Xposed, but I want to use less Xposed, not more. I may install a Broken backup from before I Xposed it, see if I can replicate the crash and pull the log, but it was the 3.9 release ending in 007, not the latest because I removed my ext4 partition when they got Obb On SD working on Lollipop. I have to make a decision now, and its not an easy one. Xposed or Broken, where will I stand. By chance, have you heard of the soft reboot problem when receiving calls from anyone else, @Masterchief87 ? It was doing the same without Xposed, so maybe I'm not the only one. But, like I said, it's the 007 release.

Custom kernel

kinda creeped out.

Ok tonight I was getting ready to get in the shower and so I went to turn my bluetooth on for some music. As I did I noticed there were 2 unknown devices. It made me go huh so I kinda messed with it a little and got a a bluetooth analyzer. I blew it off and hoped I'm the shower, but when I got out I noticed 4 total UNKNOWN devices. So I connected to one to try and figure it out. No luck. But then I noticed some strange activity on my system monitor. I think somehow I got a virus... and as I look more into the files the weirder it gets. I downloaded like 4 antiviruses with no luck. I'm not rooted, any idea?

Blocking and preventing changing mobile data / mobile hotspot

Here's what I'd like to do: schedule a block that turns off mobile hotspot or mobile data for a chosen time and prevents turning them back on before a set time. Can you recommend apps for this (or perhaps some other forum to ask for help)?

Real Mastermind

Hello guys!
This is my new logic game - "Real Mastermind"

Mastermind is board puzzle game .

Goal of the game is to guess a hidden color code. The computer creates the secret code of up to four colors and hides it at the top of the game board. You challenge is to guess this color code by trying out different color combination.

After you place your color tiles on the board, click the “check” button. A green or yellow pin will then appear to the right of you choices.

-green pin: correct color placed correctly
-yellow pin: correct color placed incorrectly

Order of these pins doesn’t carry information.
Four green pins is win.

usb hdd content slows down android tv

Hi, I have got a Philips UHD TV with Android TV. I use an external hdd, plugged to usb, to host my movie collection. The harddrive also contains a lot of backup data. After connecting the harddisk to the TV, it seams that the TVs performance gets superslow.

So my question is, can I exclude a folder on that disc, so that android won't read it? It' a NTFS formated disc.

Thanks for ideas!

Verizon Note 4 Camera(s) not saving images to the internal storage

Title just about says it all.

The stock Samsung camera was not saving the images to \DCIM
so, I decided that just maybe it was the app...

so, I installed FV-5 camera and that did not help at all.
I like FV-5 better because it allows you to define where it will store the images.
So, I changed it from the Fv-5 sub-folder to \DCIM

that didn't help either... it appears this Note 4 just does not want to save an image to storage period, don't matter what location.

Is this a "one off" thing, or is this something that can be fixed by a menu somewhere?

I have not been able to find any menu setting that would turn off the ability to save the images.

EDIT: I went back to the FV-5 camera and turned off/on some settings in it, and it is now saving images.

Tried the Samsung camera and it is still not working.
going to power the phone off/on and see what happens.

Smartwatch doesn't stay on long enough?

Good tip. It's nice to have more control over things.

Another option - I've got Lightr installed. It's a free app and I think it does roughly the same thing as Koko (which costs $1), except the free version of Lightr has limited setting choices. Specifically, Lightr free only allows you to adjust your timeout setting to "off" (uses default *) or 10 seconds or 30 seconds or 60 seconds. The selection is made right from the watch. Lightr also offers in-app purchase for more options (from 3 seconds to 5 minutes as shown in playstore description.... probably closer to the options found in Koko). But the options given in the free version are plenty for me...wouldn't want to leave the setting over 60 seconds with my 2014 moto 360.

* Watchfaces and associated apps can also have timeout built in. I use watchfaces associated with the Watchmaker app. Watchmaker allows you to specify (from the phone) a default timeout settings at 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 7 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 sec, 20 sec,30 sec, 60 sec, 120 seconds). When I set the timeout with Lightr, that Lightr setting takes precedence over the watchmaker setting. But when I set the Lightr timeout to "off", then it uses the setting that I established in Watchmaker. So I leave my Watchmaker setting at 7 seconds which gives me one more option I can select from my watch. (by selecting "off" on Lightr.)

One thing I've noticed when changing the setting with both Lightr and Watchmaker: after you change settings you may have to turn the screen off and back on once before the new timeout setting goes into effect.

Smartwatch doesn't stay on long enough?

Another Undocumented Feature.

I've read a few complaints about the watch screen being on for too short a time.

Today I timed it to just short of 5 seconds.

But.......if you double tap the watch face it will stay ON for closer to 10 seconds. At least that is how the Huawei Watch behaves.

Enjoy

Puling info from/using documents in Couchbase lite

I'm working on an android app and am trying to do the following:The user creates an account. Their password is hashed and stored in the database. When the user attempts to login, the hash of the password they entered is checked against the hash of their real password (retrieved from the database).
If the hashes match, the user is granted access. If not, the user is told they entered invalid login credentials. So far, I have managed to create a salt and a hash for the user and have it stored to the DB. My question is how can I retrieve them to validate the user's credentials to allow them access to the account. I plan on using the check method from the Authenticator class, just not sure how to pull the hash from the DB. I removed the import statements to make the code easier to read. The code I have so far:

Google Play suspended my app and terminated account

Hi everyone,
A few months ago, my team had cooperated with partner to run CPI
Our partner has uploaded our game on google play many times with different names, then our game had been added to blacklist

Now, we have not cooperate with partner for upload the game on the google play, we do it ourselves. However, our game will be suspended or terminated account when there are 5 -10 downloads. Our IP company also be added to blacklist
could you please share to me solution for this case?

What I did is:
- new credit card
- new Google Checkout account with new gmail
- new workspace
- new keystore
- new icons
- new skin, image in game
- new ssn
- new IP ( I use VPS and 3G)
- new phone number verified

I don't know what mistakes?

Better root text editor?

So I've been using Root Explorer to do build.prop edits and such but I've recently noticed that it only loads 128k. This hasn't been an issue until I was adding a bunch of tweaks to my build.prop and couldn't paste them all in. Was also trying to look through logs and could see the whole file. So is there a better root text editor that doesn't have a file load limit?

Does the version of Swype included with the LG Volt ever get updated?

Swype keyboard version 1.3.13.17955 is included with the LG Volt. There is an update page within the settings. Has anyone's Swype (the included one) been updated beyond that initial version?

(There is a free trial of a newer version of Swype with Dragon Dictation on the Play Store, but I'm not sure how it is limited. There is the paid version too, of course. I'm interested in knowing if the free version included with the phone has received any updates.)

Grimm - anyone want to talk about it?

Just finished S02E02. Things are getting pretty messy for Nick right now.

I love Monroe, I enjoyed the actor when he was on My Name Is Earl too.

Once Upon A Time was an okay show, I mostly watched it for Robert Carlyle playing the bad guy so well you never know whose side he is on at any given moment.

Forgot Lock Screen Pattern

Hi Friends,
My brother in law forgot his lock pattern on his tablet and he has tried to unblock it like 40 times (I kid you not) but the tablet keeps accepting patterns and doesn´t lock to offer the Gmail recovery feature or anything else. It just keeps saying to try again after 30 seconds and we have been doing that for that last 30 minutes. Any ideas?

TURBO 2 sound sucks

Welcome to Android Forums.

I found the volume controls on Android devices to be one of the most confusing things to learn when I was getting started. Are you sure that all seven volume controls are set to the maximum?

In Tasker as an example they are ...
A - Alarm

Song Association Game

One rule: Follow the song posted with an associated song.

Post the song name followed by the artist's or songwriter's name

Explanation
:

You could use a word or more from either the Song title or the Artist's name.

For example:
Sherry - The Four Seasons
could be followed by
The Four Seasons - Vivaldi

...

Or a related concept:

Hot Rod Lincoln
- Commander Cody
could be followed by
Highway Star - Deep Purple since they both are about fast cars.

...

Or something in the lyrics (but please post the lyric line).

Let's Go Get Stoned - Ray Charles
could be followed by
Rainy Day Women No 12 & 35 - Bob Dylan
(lyrics = Everybody must get stoned)

...

Or any other association. If the association isn't obvious, please explain it so we all can get it.

Try not to post repeats, but it's OK if you do -- it's only a game and we aren't keeping score.

I play this one on a guitar forum, and sometimes the associations that others come up with are quite amusing.

So I'll start the new game with:

Just Can't Get Enough - Black Eyed Peas

Notes ♫

Case up or run naked?

I know they claim these are shatterproof, but that doesn't mean that a drop won't scratch up the screen or body. So are you guys going to use a case or not? If so, which one?
On my last several phones, I've gone with basic TPU cases- they're cheap, add basic protection and don't add much bulk. However, since the T2 is already a pretty big phone, I'm worried about adding even more to that by adding a case. However, some slim TPU cases are already starting to pop up and it looks like Incipio is making a DualPro Carbon case which looks really nice, though I'd want to handle it in person to see how much bulk it adds.

Thoughts?

Will the Amazon Appstore be replaced with the Amazon Underground?

Personally, not a fan of the chance to Underground.
Missing the FAOTD and the associated bundles. Yeah, sure, the Underground apps are free, but also have more permissions. These can also be withdrawn if the developers fail to offer the incentives to Amazon.
The new app is slower on my tablets and frequently stops.
Search and grouping is also lacking.

Why try to fix something that isn't broke. But looks like its here to stay.

Stuck on Chrome OS

I turned my older Toshiba Satellite laptop into a chromebook using the following methods:http://ift.tt/1PkTHCd
So I played with it a while and decided to reinstall windows 7 from boot dvd. Early in the installation a window popped up asking which partition I wanted to use (seems as though the chrome os installation partitioned my hd into 12 parts. There was only one partition with enough free space to use (300gb) so I selected that one. Another window said it couldn't install there because the partition was GPT type. Just for kicks, I tried all the others. Same result. It gives me the option to delete or format a drive but I'm not sure how to proceed. If I choose to format, will I be able to change the type from GPT, and if so, what should I change it to?
Note: I posted this in Windows forum and am awaiting a response. Just figured I'd also post here being that AV is my most trusted source of tech help

Stuck on Chrome OS

Micro SD card/Galaxy S3 problems.

Yesterday I started to notice that the SD card in my Galaxy S3 was acting strange. I'd get notifications that it wasn't mounted for a few minutes, and then it would mount. This happened three or four times and it didn't happen again. Everything was being read just fine until a few hours ago.

I've been using a class 4 16GB PNY SD card for a over a year now, and haven't had any problems with it until now. The card isn't being recognized by my PC via catd reader or USB connection like it usually is, and my phone isn't acknowledging its existence at all.

So, I tried a new card (a little class 4 8GB from SanDisk) to see how that would work, and it mounted. After a few seconds, it unmounted. I formatted the card and repeated the process. Same thing. I turned my Galaxy off, removed the card, removed the battery, and let it cool because I noticed that it was getting extremely hot. When everything was nice and cool, I tried the 2GB card again. It mounted, and unmounted yet again. And in less than a minute, I almost burned my hand because my phone was roasting. It's never gotten that hot. So upon further investigation to see why the phone was getting so hot all of the sudden, it was obvious that it was the SD card slot. The battery and everything except for the SD card slot was cool.

I've scoured the net for answers and I'm at a loss here. I'm thinking that it's an issue with my phone now instead of my card like I originally thought. Any ideas? I've had my Galaxy for two years now, the software is up to date, it's not rooted, and I cleared its cache yesterday morning with no trouble. This is the only problem I've had with it that I haven't been able to figure out, and the couple issues I did have with it were very minor. I registered to ask about this so I hope someone can help.

Waiting on the Note 6? What do you have now?

Just curious what those of you (like me) waiting for the eventual Note 6 have now. Current Note device, some other Samsung, or another brand? If a Note, I'm curious which. I'm a Note fan, never strayed from it once I tried it.

Samsung fan maybe?

Anyway, I'm rockin' a Note 4. Had a 2 and 3, loved them both. I'm skipping the 5 because the 4 is well enough still to not justify the cost. Not that that stopped me before, but anyway... I expect the 6 will be right on time for me.

I've had a couple different Motorola devices, including the original Droid on Verizon. Wife has had mainly HTC but have used Notes too.

Not getting SMS notifications while using chrome

I have the Boost MOBILE LG Volt 2 and whenever I'm using Chrome, my text notifications (the little message bubble in the status bar, vibrate, and sound.) don't work. Even after closing Chrome they don't come through. I have to go to messaging and see if i have anything new. So I need some help making some sort of categorized menu application

I work in a shop that requires me to make a menu.

I knew how to do this a while back, but I haven't programmed in a good few years, so I don't remember how.

Anyway, this is what I need to do, and can someone help me find tutorials on how to go about this?

You open the app, and are listed with some options.

Sort "Products" by

 • Flavor
 • Ratio
 • Brand
 • RANDOM*
Basically, each one takes you to another sub-page, i.e.:

Flavor will list a bunch of flavors, such as

Fruity, Tobacoo, Menthol, etc.

The other categories follow the same story, just with that specific category instead.

When entering these categories, the products themselves will be listed in big text boxes, with a picture of the product, the price on the right, and a small description under it.

*As for random, it will pick a random product and take the user to said page.

Each product will be added as an object (I think this is the most efficient way?) that has private variables that have the price, the picture, the name, the description, etc. Possibly, if I remember correctly, something that could work is even getting just one central file hosted somewhere with all this information, and the application will pull that file each time, and fill the menus with said data.

It sounds like a damn simple application, but I cannot wrap my head around exactly where to start.

Any pointers?

Z987 Stock ROM/Recovery

Hello everyone, I have made a flashable stock ROM for the ZTE Grand X Max+. This ROM will fully unroot your device, replace TWRP with the stock recovery, and bring your phone back to factory stock condition. If you want to sell your phone, or need to do a warranty exchange due to a hardware issue(not caused by something you did after rooting) then this is what you need.

WARNING:
As far as I know there is no official firmware or flash tool for this phone that is available to the public. This ROM flashes to your boot, system, and recovery partitions so theoretically if the file gets corrupted while you are downloading it, it could potentially brick your phone with no way to fix it. Because of this you have to check the md5 to make sure you didn't get a bad(corrupted) download.

-DISCLAIMER-
I am not responsible for Global Thermonuclear Warfare, the death of your pet, or if your phone transforms into an evil alien robot and burns your house down. You alone are responsible for what you do with your phone. This ROM is for the ZTE Grand X Max+ only. If you flash it on a different device or flash it without checking the md5 and then complain that your phone is bricked, I will laugh at you.

-INSTRUCTIONS-
[1] Download the ROM and put it on your internal storage or SD card.

[2] If you have been using my zips for system r/w, make sure you flash the appropriate RESTORE zip to make sure that TWRP and the boot.img are on their correct partitions.

[3] Do a factory reset.

[5] Flash the ROM and then reboot system after it is finished. (You will get a warning saying that "No OS Is Installed." This is just a false alarm. Ignore this warning and reboot system. )

DOWNLOAD:
http://ift.tt/1TlJ4OU
md5:
c75e1fa0b979066ef79193abc53ef127

You can check the md5 by installing and using MD5 Checker from the play store. In order to check the md5 you open the app and click on "Load File 1" and find the file you are checking and select it. Once it has generated the md5 sum for the file you are checking you copy and paste the md5 I posted above into the other field and then press the "Check" button. If the numbers turn green the file is good and if they turn red it is corrupted and needs to be deleted and downloaded again.

If I have helped you please click the like button.

Marketmarks on LG KitKat devices

I'm trying to get Marketmarks working on an LG KitKat device.

When I try to add an app to Marketmarks, or update info for already added apps, it times out. The app details (version number, price, etc.) are never added.

Home screen crashed, but remaining app data restored. Sony Xperia M4. Pls help

Hi - My phone just stopped responding and i had to restart. On restart, it asked me for my google password and my home screen was completely wiped. thankfully my apps and app data was resoted. Once i opened Gmail, all my contacts came back too. But my call logs are gone.
Could you please tell me why this happened? And how can I avoid something like this happening in the future.

In some past cases of crash on this phone, I was unable to restore my apps from Google (it just never asked for the option), which led to a harrowing time of reloading all my apps. I would like to avoid any such scenario in the future. Greatly appreciate all your help.

Messages w/ Dual SIM

I am currently using Messenger from Google which can black list accounts by moving their text messages to an archive folder. That way, I don't have to see the texts in the in box but I can still view them when I visit the archive folder (in case some are important). Unfortunately, the app does not support dual sim.

Given that, I'm looking for an app that can at least filter and move messages to another folder while supporting dual sim (i.e., I can select which sim to use when I send a text).

T-Mobile buffering issues

On my GS5 from T-Mobile, in the past couple weeks, I've been having all kind of buffering issues. Mostly within youtube. My wife also has the same phone and has been experiencing the same thing. I've narrowed it down to it has to be some kind of network issue because as soon as I put it on my wifi network, it stops. I've had the GS5 as well as T-Mobile for quite some time now and this is the first time I've ever had an issue like this.

Has anyone else been having issues like this lately?

Favorite Dial Wrong Number

My dad has the Note 3. Sometimes when he selects an icon in his favorites to dial, it actually dials the wrong person. This doesn't happen every time and not with every favorite contact, but does happen quite often. I did notice in the application manager, under all apps, the phone app shows up three times. I dont know why its there 3 times and didnt want to delete any for fear of deleting the wrong one if that is possible. Not sure if that is the issue. Hi guys, i bought a galaxy tab 2 7" (p3110) and i had it running the stock fw. Everything was fine and i decided to flash it with clockwork mod and cm 10.1.3 (meaning i have 4.2.2 android version). I tried with so many games that i had installed and were working fine at stock fw. Does anyone of you know why they not running anymore? Unofficial CyanogenMod 13.0 for LG L70 D320 D320n D325 MS323

Considering this is alpha, it's quite good. My observations so far (d320n):
- NFC bug, of course
- Camera can be started, but can't take photos, can't switch to video, etc. On all of these, there's a fc.
- There's no option to format SD card as internal (at least I didn't found it)

Haven't tried GPS and FM, though.

Wireless Charging

I have two different Tylt Vu chargers that I used for my Droid Maxx; I think that they're great.

Just FYI, each of the last two Thanksgivings they have had a brief "Black Friday" sale for $35 (I know it was Black Friday last year, I can't remember about 2013 - it may have been another time.) It took weeks for them to ship all of them out, and, of course, there's no guarantee that they will do it again this year, but it may be worth waiting a couple of weeks to see. At $35 they're a great buy IMHO.

That brings up one more thing: I have no need for these chargers anymore, and, one of these days, I'll get motivated to put up a classified for them. I paid $35 each, I'd probably sell them for $25. If anybody is interested, that may get me to actually do the ad...

Free Strategy Games With No IAPs

While there are a lot of free games out there, many games (like movies or music) take a lot of time and resources to develop... and it's only right that the developers find a way to get compensated for their hard work. Many games are free with ads that generate revenue for the developers: others sell their wares outright or have IAP (In-App Purchases) to make money. Such is the idea of a free market: the idea that all games should be free is akin to saying that all movies and music should be free too... leaving us with a bunch of starving artists and a sudden lack of content as artists, producers and developers leave the field to seek better opportunities.

That said, you can always look in the Application Development Forum to find developers who have either just announced a new game or are looking for beta testers to try their apps. This way you get the dual opportunity to see the newest games first AND be part of the development process as you try them out and report any issues back to the developer.
