another 580c project. .

new guy here. Just got a 580c that has been sitting for years (upwards of 10). Started up immediately after I hotwired and jumped it. Got key now, so I won't need to do that anymore. I proceeded to blow the return line to the hydraulic filter. Replaced that with a hose that cost me $250. There's another return line that has a pinhole. I'm thinking about cutting it and hose clamping a hose onto it as a temp repair, but i am unable to find what the return pressure is supposed to be. Anyone...

EX120-2 and Dr Ex Software

Hi,

I have been tinkering with a ex-120-2 for a year now. It was leaky and uncared for. I been fixing the leaks, but shortly after buying last year the hydraulics went out (it was real jerky and would stall when I would steer hard right before it all went out). Anyways I replaced the dp sensor, angle sensor, filters, center joint seals (leaky), and swing reduction seals (leaky). Still need to do oil cooler and stick cylinder. I check the solenoids on the top of the pump too, seem to be...

Komatsu D38E-1 Pops out of Reverse

The machine pops out of reverse but all the pressures are good. It doesn't matter which range it is in. Machine has a joystick control for direction, range and steer right or left. When in reverse it seems to me that the control has no detent left and easily pops out of gear. I checked the parts book which only shows a detent for the range selection. Basically turning the handle changes the ranges. There is nothing shown on the spools for direction. Looking at the diagram, it looks like only...

580C light brown leak from right brake to case

I just got done replacing the Master and Slave Cylinders. I sprayed a lot of brake cleaner and it just rained here. When the brakes are applied the wheels will stop if they are spinning off the ground. I pulled the diff lock cover to free up the diff lock input shaft and found what looks coffee light leaking out of the right brake where it mount to the differential.

I checked the diff oil right away. The oil is good and clean. The brakes haven't been moved in the long time. It also...

Where is Case 580 Super L Rear Differential Part Number ?

I am going to change the fluid in the rear differential and planetary drives on my Case 580 Super L Backhoe. I found a reference that says the oil requirement is different depending on part number for the rear end on these machines - Axle Numbers 114367A2 and 114367A3 use MS1317 oil which is and 85W 140 with friction modifier. Boom Cylinder Failure!!

Take a look at this boom cylinder on my friends Volvo excavator. Noticed it was starting to drift and was also making noise while raising. I have to reseal the boom and bucket cylinders on my CAT 225. I priced out all the parts online via a few different methods:

1) CAT Parts Store via my local CAT dealer. ("High" quality, I assume all made in the USA/West)
2) Online using Amazon & eBay only. ("Aftermarket" quality, some made in USA/West, some Asia)
3) Cheapest prices online via https://propelparts.us/ ("Lowest" quality, I assume all made in China)

Here are the results of the pricing analysis:...

Got bit by something...

Last Thursday I thought I got dust in my eye when a few guys came out to my MX track. My eye was kind of sore and not red or anything so I put some drops in hoping it would clean everything out. Also thought I could have a bit of a cold. A few days later and stiil sore and now a little red. I took a closer look and noticed I now have what appear to be 3 puffy bug bites in a row on the side of my forehead about 1/2 an inch from my eye. Where to buy quality cyl seal kits online?

I have acquired a neglected Case 580E backhoe and am going thru and fixing leaks. For front loader cylinder, i purchased two cylinder seal kits:

$19 from eBay, all no-name seals, fit and finish seemed lower than the below kit.

$32 from foxkit, included at least one SKF marked seals. Quality of fit seems more precise than the above.

My questions:
- does the use of name-brand seals make a difference ?

-where do you shop for quality seal kits?

EX60-2 Thumb Circuit

I'm planning to add a thumb to my EX60-2 and need a hydraulic circuit to run it. I'm thinking of using the unused offset boom spool. It'll require me to fab up a pedal and run a cable to the spool since it's not hydraulic. This seems to be the most fool proof way but it will be pedal actuated which isn't the worst. I'm used to that from another machine I run. I'd add a relief valve so I could tailor it to the bucket hydraulics.

Axle numbers 114367A4 and later use MS1207 which is a HyTran Fluid.
I looked around on the rear differential but haven't found the part number yet...

Where is Case 580 Super L Rear Differential Part Number ?

New to me EX120-2

Just picked up an Ex120-2 and excited to get to work on it, so it can work on our new homestead

It has leaks and a few quirks, but I have to say, spending time on here reading over the posts gave me the confidence to make the purchase.
One item though popped up that the owner didn’t mention.

The Boom up is painfully slow. You pull back on the stick, and you can hear a valve or something staving for oil. If you push down on the boom and slightly pick the machine up, then the boom up...

TEREX TA64 Knuckle Boom Lift

I've been scouring the internet looking for a service/shop manual for this 1996 lift. All I can find is the parts and owner's manuals. Seems to be very limited results for this model.

Does anyone know if this lift has a direct parallel to another brand/name like SIMON or GENIE that I could look into instead? I'm mainly interested in the wiring schematics, but if I could get my hands on a full manual that would be nice too.

Starts and runs, but has a few issues before it's ready for work. The emergency brake valve next to the seat was leaking and wouldn't build pressure, I got a rebuilt one locally. Case 445 manual plunger/primer

Hey,
wondering if any actually found it or if it's just a myth.... Doing some service work on my machine. The fuel filter is spun on but could not find the above. Assuming case 430's, 40's etc. would have the same system. Operator manual says to back of the air screw and use the plunger to fill the filter but doesn't show it on the drawing. Thx.

The machine does not throtle up as soon as you start to move the joystick for a function. If you wait a few seconds it will throtle up and work fine. if you try to lift or dig it will stahl. Preasures are in specs for the two main pumps . The Pilot pump is a little low about 650 psi, would that cause this? The govener motor was changed could that be it. Anybody have seen anything like this? Thank You, Mike 138.

Case 1845C advice.

Hello all. New to forum and first post. I just got a 1993 1845C that I traded my old 610 bobcat and some cash for, so I have about $6000.00 in it. Hour meter reads about 3300 and there is paint pen numbers above it 4400hr. So I assume the machine has close to 8000hr. The engine is dry and clean and runs perfect and is not near as grimy as the rest of the machine. Overall it looks pretty decent with about 40% tires. My biggest complaint is the left side has weak hyd drive pump and or motor....

New to me 143 H

Hi everyone!
I just bought an ex-county machine off of BigIron Auctions.
CAT0143HV1AL01163
Pretty low hours, around 4500. Called to see if oils needed changed up, they said it had been in shop last winter. Oils changed, drive chains changed, trans solenoids replaced, and some maintenance done in the front wheels.
So a couple questions.
Should the front wheel assist be used at all times? Is there a choice?
Any quirks I should know about on that machine?

These CAT 225 cylinders require around 2600-2900 ft-lbs to properly torque the piston nut. I do not have a cylinder repair bench of any kind. In the past I have borrowed 600 ft-lb torque wrenches and torque multipliers to get jobs done, but I have no source for...

PTO hydraulics on a GMC Top Kick

[IMG]I've bought a fire truck as a replacement for my C65 I need hydraulics for the dump body now on the C65. It won't carry tandem weight. I'd estimate body, and load together at 17000.

My engine is a Cat 3208Turbo. Try as I might I can't find room for an engine mounted pump. Shaft drive off the front of the engine isn't going to work as the radiator is in the way, and includes coolers for transmission, and engine...

Massey 300 stops moving

Hello. Just bought this crawler
Don't know much about this machine, just got it ( cheap) but at times under load the 2 speed powershift will just stop, I then run the shifter from forward to reverse then back then it seems to reluctantly move again
Fluid is full, hydraulics and everything else works fine, is this something typical and I'm missing something? Or is this an adjustment or something I need to make

Any help is appreciated

Hopefully I have posted this correctly, if not...

CAT 966C - My first ride in heavy machinery

Lawrence, a new member [71 year old ex Navy Electrical Engineer] now involved in research and development in small scale hydro energy technology solutions.

I picked up a 966C Loader yesterday and floated it to a small plot of land (10 hectares) in Western Queensland alongside the Condamine River. I need it to do some earthworks over the next 6 months and construct a small reservoir (about 5 ML capacity) at 10 M head, for an experimental pumped hydro system design (hardware + software) that...

TD-15 not moving forward or backward

View attachment 224754 View attachment 224754 Hello all, so we have an old TD-15 Dresser that we know virtually nothing about. Was running good until it stopped moving back and forth, has been sitting where it is since about january now. Still turns on at the first press of the button. Almost nobody in my area knows about this machine, been looking all over for anything that can help me ID the thing but so far have found nothing. Was told that the issue sounds like it could be...

Ed's 77 Terex 72-41

Starts and runs, but has a few issues before it's ready for work. The emergency brake valve next to the seat was leaking and wouldn't build pressure, I got a rebuilt one locally. The valve in front of it had a broken lever, also got a new one. I'm thinking it's a 4WD switch, not sure. I have a parts manual coming today, no service manual yet.

Also the transmission is leaking, there's a pretty good drip coming off the small round thing with hose towards center of the picture (underside...

Caterpillar 973 failure

greetings to all forum members. first of all apologize in advance because my language is not English, but have started to work google translator to understand and communicate with you.

I recently purchased a 973 serial cat 66g, at first glance the machine does not wear this because I never work with soil or rocks, but work in a warehouse storage of fertilizers.

the initial problem of this charger is that it did not move. only 1 meter and stopped. got a manual and started work....

Genie z34/22n tires

I have an older genie z34/22n with the solid tires. Can I replace the tires on it with air filled or foam filled tires for a genie z34/22. Both lifts have almost the same specs and every part number that I checked for the drive train is the same. I think the biggest item is that it would put it a little more off the ground and may make it a little wider. I use this lift outside only on the dirt. The solid tires make it very hard to move at times due to traction. The current tires are...

Hi Yall,
I am a new member but have a machine that is giving me some trouble. I have a 2006 Genie 1048 telehandler that is shutting down. I just bought this machine a little over a month ago from a private dealer who sells stuff on the side. Engine is a John Deere 4045. After that it will only run a minute each time before shutting down. If you leave the...

CAT D8H Hydraulic GPM question

Folks

I have a D8H serial number 46A18325. I am mounting a Werk Brau tile plow on the machine. I need to know if the machine is open or closed center and what the GPM is of the hydraulics to get the correct control valve for GPS grade control on the drainage plow. Any suggestions on where to look up? I am pretty sure these machines were built open center for factory? How do you tell? Also the machine is a scraper tractor and I believe it was factory. Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

Cat 3126 rear main install tool

I'm going to have to put a new rear main seal in a cat 3126 sometime in the near future. When I get tired of it puking oil on the ground.

A guy local to me has this on Craigslist- is this the only tool I need, or do I need another adapter? Seller states that it does 3126- but I don't know.

I have a seal install tool for a 3208, I guess I should look and see what part # it is.

My D6D

This turned up this week. It is an upgrade from our D4D.

Has air cab that works, it is a PC engine. Has obviously done quite a bit of work. The blade linkages all need work as there is a fair bit of slop. Undercarriage is in quite good order. I would say the SALT links are 70%. Grousers 90%+ and the bottom roller the same. Rippers could do with a line bore but will suffice for the time being.

Strange thing is it has a modern S/N plate attached

When I track forward or reverse the machine could push a mountain over. Plenty of speed etc... The problem is if I try to turn or try to move one track at a time, it basically falls on it's face. It doesn't stall the engine, it almost seems like fluid is bypassing.

What brands of elevating scrapers used a Hancock design bowl?

I've been told the Terex S17E. That bowl sure looks similar to the Wabco. Maybe I'm wrong. But the stationary cutting edge, and the strike-off blade attached to the moving floor have similar designs. The large pipe across the top rear of the bowl, etc. Later designs have the laid up box fabrication of the bowl walls like the backside of the Cat six way blades.
Tying the lower front of the bowl walls together with a cutting edge would sure strengthen the walls at the lower front

Sourcing RGN and landall guys. Always a moving target....

Are there any boards or forums to make some friends here? I think some guys are just trying to get moved in a direction and us end users just don't understand it all. I mean if you want to move a standard van or flatdeck, no biggy, but anything outside of that, OMG..... Like the trucker guys I talk to are not making money,...

So I made arrangements and the Operating Engineers Training Center had the lead grader instructor come down and put a bank on my flat track with a brand new Cat 140. Links or resources to find equipment condition inspectors?
