Hi Folks,
I've been having trouble with MMS on my Nexus 5 since updating to MM, and have been fussing with it for a couple weeks now trying to figure out what is up. Some time after upgrading to MM I noticed that I wasn't receiving text messages with pictures. I was also unable to send. When I tried to send one it would just sit there saying "Sending" and eventually would fail, and I could tap to try and send it again (which almost never worked). I also wasn't receiving them - my brother would send me a text referring to a pic he had sent me, but I never would receive the pic.
I Googled around a bit, and found some posts that indicated Pushbullet had broken MMS on Marshmallow and they suggested removing it and rebooting the phone. I did that about 10 days ago, but it was still hit or miss with MMS - mostly miss. I tried switching between Hangouts and Messenger - still no joy. I finally tried sending one while I was out away from home and it went through. Over the last week, through a process of elimination I have determined that if I have WiFi on (even if not connected to a hotspot) the MMS will not send or receive. Turning WiFi off and sending a text with a pic goes right through. If I have one I tried to send that's stuck because WiFi was on, I can shut off WiFi and then try to resend (after it's failed), and it goes right though. I reproduced this activity about 10 times today. WiFi on, no MMS. WiFi off, MMS works fine.
I have Googled this and found others with similar experiences, but wasn't able to find a solution. Usually the threads digress into an argument about whether MMS can use WiFi or not. Let me be clear - that's not my issue or question. I don't care how the MMS actually goes, but when WiFi is on it should still go. Period. I did not have this problem prior to the Marshmallow update. Since I pretty much leave WiFi on ALL the time, this is becoming a huge PITA.
If anyone has any pointers about how to get an MMS to actually send while WiFi is on, please let me know.
Thanks,
Gary
