Micro SD card/Galaxy S3 problems.

Yesterday I started to notice that the SD card in my Galaxy S3 was acting strange. I'd get notifications that it wasn't mounted for a few minutes, and then it would mount. This happened three or four times and it didn't happen again. Everything was being read just fine until a few hours ago.

I've been using a class 4 16GB PNY SD card for a over a year now, and haven't had any problems with it until now. The card isn't being recognized by my PC via catd reader or USB connection like it usually is, and my phone isn't acknowledging its existence at all.

So, I tried a new card (a little class 4 8GB from SanDisk) to see how that would work, and it mounted. After a few seconds, it unmounted. I formatted the card and repeated the process. Same thing. I turned my Galaxy off, removed the card, removed the battery, and let it cool because I noticed that it was getting extremely hot. When everything was nice and cool, I tried the 2GB card again. It mounted, and unmounted yet again. And in less than a minute, I almost burned my hand because my phone was roasting. It's never gotten that hot. So upon further investigation to see why the phone was getting so hot all of the sudden, it was obvious that it was the SD card slot. The battery and everything except for the SD card slot was cool.

I've scoured the net for answers and I'm at a loss here. I'm thinking that it's an issue with my phone now instead of my card like I originally thought. Any ideas? I've had my Galaxy for two years now, the software is up to date, it's not rooted, and I cleared its cache yesterday morning with no trouble. This is the only problem I've had with it that I haven't been able to figure out, and the couple issues I did have with it were very minor. I registered to ask about this so I hope someone can help.
