Does the "shatter proof" screen still "need" a screen protector?

I know Motorola guarantees the screen from shattering for 4 years. But in reading various articles and posts online, some have said that the Droid Turbo 2's "shatter proof" screen doesn't necessarily mean scratch proof, so some still recommend using a screen protector. What are your thoughts? I've used screen protectors on my previous phones just to be safe. I'm not sure if they did anything since I'm (knock on wood) not abusive with my phones, so perhaps it was more for peace of mind. Now that the screen itself is much stronger than Gorilla Glass that most other phones have, I'm wondering if I still need to bother with one. TIA.
