Can a simple one-time transfer of calendar events really be this complicated?

I don't need to run (and sync) multiple calendars on different devices. I just need to transfer past and forthcoming calendar events, once only, from my "old phone" to my "new phone." That can't be too hard, surely?

"Old phone": Galaxy S4 [AT&T I337, Android 5.0.1]
"New phone": LG V10 [AT&T H900, Android 5.1.1]

What I've tried:
1) AT&T Mobile Transfer app. This transferred pretty much all of my data except for my calendar events.
2) Google Calendar installed on both phones. After a great deal of reading and tweaking to solve syncing issues, I was finally able to get this to record new appointments on old phone that would then show up on new phone, but I haven't yet found a way to transfer the full set of events over to the new phone. And, going forward, I'd prefer to continue using the LG version of the native Android calendar rather than Google Calendar.
3) And, needless to say, neither Kies 3 nor Smart Switch recognizes the LG phone.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
