Yep, that other theme was for Cyanogen Mod, a custom rom. The 3rd party launchers don't require root or anything special, and there are plenty of themes for those. I have used Nova in the past and preferred it at the time to Apex. Also, any theme that says it's an Apex theme should work on Nova as well. So don't feel like you are stuck to one or the other just because of theme selection.
