Depends if you want to store the login details locally on the device, or send to a remote server. If the former, then use SQLite, otherwise you can make use of MySQL via a PHP script, as you mentioned.
Of course if you do send these details to a remote server, make sure you use a secure transmission protocol, such HTTPS, or otherwise encrypt the data.
