Nexus 6P Phone App Swipe

This is not really an earth shattering problem, but on my new Nexus 6P phone the phone app doesn't have the typical red phone/green phone icons when getting a call. You just get a vibrating circle and then have to actually start to move it before the red and green icons show up to accept or decline (or text) the call. Sure, I am being picky, but at times when my phone might be upside down or I am waking up to take a call I would like to know before I start to swipe. Helps avoid that unwanted surprise call from my mother in law.

I tried other phone apps, but the Google phone app really likes to hang on, even after being disabled. I like it as an app, but why don't those two simple icons show up at the time of a call?
